If you are an ardent fan of anime especially exciting ones with lots of action, you’ll definitely love Tokyo Revengers. Recently, it’s been trending amongst the top must-watch anime shows of 2021. Considering the fact that a whole lot of individuals prefer reading the Tokyo Revengers manga, it’s anime adaptation has gained a lot of popularity in 2021 competing with the likes of Attack on Titan final season, Demon slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen and a whole lot of other anime series. 

Tokyo revengers is an anime series that came out in April, 2021 and tells the story of Hanagaki Takemitchi (takemitchy by Draken), a 26 year old guy living the boring life until he discovers that Tachibana Hinata; his former girlfriend of his middle school days was killed in an accident caused by the Tokyo Manji gang. He discovers he could go back 12 years in time by physically shaking hands with her younger brother Naoto. He relives his middle school days hoping to get to the root of the problem by saving those whose death would lead to the future death of Hinata. Eventually, he gets into the Tokyo Manji gang, met the likes of Mikey, Draken, Mitsuya, later Kisaki Tetta who is potrayed to be the mastermind behind the evils leading to Hinata’s death and other powerful characters.

Why most people still love Tokyo Revengers

Well, one might wonder why the series is trending. People watch anime for different reasons especially ones with plot twists and action packed fight scenes. Looking at the fact that it features time travel, it might be a turn off for people like me because I really don’t fancy the time-space paradox and all that. But still, its one anime that tickles my fancy. Let’s see why the anime is still popular. 

1.It’s Main Character, Takemitchi

Takemitchi is not your typical MC, but he brings a whole new kind of feel to the role in his determination and strong-willed nature. Although i would have preferred someone like Mikey or probably Draken to be the lead role due to their backstories and strength levels, Takemitchi often displays this character that is amazed at his youthful actions and tries to make up for them. We sometimes get that a lot, don’t we? One thing that always surprises me is that as a Tokyo Manji gang member, he lacks the ability to fight and always gets beaten black and blue but always stands up to bullies and strong characters like Kiyomasa and Osanai. This is probably cool with most individuals and makes it stand out amongst other animes. 

2. Unique Story Line

Most people don’t consider time travel anime which is among the isekai genre of anime to be worth watching, but Tokyo revengers combines action, story telling and time travel in a way that’s appealing to its fans. Although it features fight scenes, gangs, love stories and camaraderie between comrades, the time travel part is not so hard to understand and it’s story better suits the action. Hence, making it one of the most watched anime. 

3. It’s Cool Characters

If there’s one thing to look out for in Tokyo Revengers, it’s the characters which are way cooler. This usually gives people that nostalgia associated with their involvement in gangs and fights in their youthful days. Most anime series feature characters with hyper power levels or magical kinds of stuff, but this anime has normal individuals with cool, savvy natures. From Mikey with his strength and leadership to Draken with his temporal tattoo and composure, to Baji who I think is the coolest by the way, Hanma Shuji, Kisaki, the Haitani brothers and many others. 

4. Fight scenes

One of the major reasons people watch anime is its fight scenes. Tokyo Revengers fight scenes are always built around its storylines and are action packed. One thing to look out for is Mikey’s nuclear kick which he delivers to the face of his opponent especially in the fight scenes in the garage where he fought Kazutora and Hanma or the scene at the festival when Draken was almost killed. It’s fight scenes are always epic and feature characters with top strength levels in their attempt to be top dawg.

5.The quest to save Hinata

For individuals who don’t read manga, there’s a drive to want to know what would happen especially when Takemitchi goes back in time to save Hinata. Most people want to know what happens to Kisaki or if Takemitchi finally succeeds in what he sets out to do since the beginning of the series. This makes the anime rank high in searches and sets it above others.
